I set off for a fine cruise around the pistes of Tignes – Val d’Isere as part of a team of 5. The monotony of the bright blue sky was punctured by a few fluffy white clouds coming from the Aoste Valley, so all in all a ‘brochure day’. The pistes were not as hard this morning after a less cool night so high speed cruising all the way. We completed the Palet Sector followed by the Grande Motte (the bumps on Leisse are now huge!). After a quick lunch it was over to Val d’Isere, the Bellvarde and La Daille and then a quick tour round the bowl home to Tignes Le Lac. The runs in the sun are now getting soft in the afternoon, but not yet slushy – the soft stuff certainly makes me look better in the moguls. The British Championships are going on this week in Tignes Val Claret, just a training day today.
The weather predictions will swing to and fro through the week as Tignes – Val d’Isere finds itself under a ridge of high pressure sneaking up from the Azores, with low pressure over Greece and the UK trying to squeeze its way in. But it is going to be a good week all in all until about Easter Egg time. Tomorrow will be like today; the breeze will pick up at altitude in the afternoon but shouldn’t spoil anything. Wednesday will be a sunny morning with sunny periods in the afternoon, the wind will be noticeably stronger and the air will be about 3 degrees cooler – pack another a layer in the rucksack. The wind will be quite strong on Thursday, but it will be mainly sunny. Friday looks quite cloudy but the sun returns for Saturday. After that it looks a bit unsettled with some fresh snow to come for the high resorts.
