Tignes Val d’Isere Snow Report & Weather Forecast – 12.03.16

Meteo Mike Snow Reports Tignes Val d'IsereBy Meteo Mike

Another glorious day in Tignes – Val d’Isere – there was just a hint of haze in the air but nothing to spoil a great day for charging round firm (but not hard) pistes. Not a stone in sight, even down into La Daille. The whole Espace Killy seemed to be deserted (except the Cable car for the Grande Motte!). We saw quite a few Spring avalanches triggered by the heat – some particularly big ones above the Triffolet down into La Daille. A small slip also shut the road near Tignes Les Boisses this afternoon – standby for some afternoon blasting by the pisteurs after the lifts close.

Tomorrow will be similar to today but with quite a few fluffy clouds aloft, especially towards the Italian border. Order is restored on Monday; as today but with just a hint of an easterly wind. A veil of cloud will obscure the sun on Tuesday afternoon after another nice morning. And then it will be sunshine and showers on Wednesday, with the snowline down to 1600m, but nothing too drastic. The snow gods look to be favouring Le Fornet again as its an easterly.

For those “slipping the surly bonds of Earth” (John Gillespie Magee – High Flight) tomorrow it will be misty in the UK and most of the airfields from Leeds Bradford and south have a warning for a chance of fog. Gatwick lost that lottery today and ended up with a number of delays – if I had to bet Luton looks a tad more susceptible tomorrow. At the ski resort side all is well at Geneva, Chambery and Lyon, but there is a slim chance of early fog at Grenoble – but as it is not a busy airport (terminal excepted) it shouldn’t cause too many problems.
