A mixed day today for a charge round the pistes in Tignes and Val D’Isere. As the light was half reasonable over breakfast we dashed down into La Daille and hopped on the bus to Le Fornet and onto the glacier. The place was deserted and the pistes were just like corduroy. So as Maverick said to Goose:
I feel the need, the need for speed.
Lap after lap of high speed cruising – just wonderful. The light was variable as bits of cloud floated about and there was a chill breeze above 2800m. Progressively the cloud thickened and the light deteriorated – the pic is from the Cascades Terrace at Pissaillas – managed to catch a snow finch – it was good enough for them to fly. We worked our way down the Solaise and back to Tignes and by early afternoon there were some light flocons floating about. But by 3.30pm there were a few breaks and some quite decent light.
It will be predominately cloudy tonight and this will continue into tomorrow which will be pretty much like today. A chance of a light snow shower at anytime, but perhaps a glimpse of the sun again in the afternoon. Wednesday will not be much different, the different forecasts are giving the showers of snow and sunny periods at differing times. Look out of the window but watch out for the wind picking up in the afternoon. Thursday morning looks better with thinner cloud which will thicken in the afternoon to give the odd lights shower. Friday will be warmer and there may be the odd sleet shower in the villages, snow higher. The sun is currently forecast to make an appearance in the afternoon, fingers crossed!
