Skiers Strike Gold In Tignes’ First Virtual Treasure Hunt

Marmot Arms and Edge Charity eventTignes’ first ever digital treasure hunt – the innovative Takara Token Rally – saw teams of skiers race around the mountain collecting virtual tokens, raising over €700 for charity in the process!

The event, organised by Edge Magazine and Proof Of Visit with the Marmot Arms, is the first bitcoin geo-caching game held in a ski resort.

Digital souvenir company Proof Of Visit dropped 100 virtual ‘Edge’ tokens across the Espace Killy, which teams could find by downloading the Takara app to their phones. To collect each token they had to ski to where it was on the map, and download it. The game was made yet more fun as some tokens had clever clues they had to guess or extra challenges to complete – like taking the best team beer drinking photo at a mountain bar! Marmot Arms owner Will sounded the bugle call to start the race from the bar, and each time a token was downloaded it would be tweeted so each team knew what the competition was up to. The race was tense to the finish, and the beer drinking photos coming in were steadily more hilarious, but a fabulous day was had by all!
