Incredible snow and beautiful weather today- the sunshine came out to celebrate Tignes and Val D’Isere official Winter resort opening, and what a glorious day it has been! A slow start for some lift and piste openings as pisteurs and the STGM worked hard to deal with the masses of snow that has fallen over the last few days- over 1m 50 at the top of the Grand Motte in the last 48hours, and at least 1m at 2500m! Click here for a comprehensive weather and conditions report for the day from Meteo Mike. Watch the video above for TDC ski school’s conditions report direct from the hill.
The Grand Motte has been open since October, and this past week has seen Double M, Tichot and Bollin crank into action as well. With the majority of Tignes lifts opening over the course of the day today, including the liaison to Val D’Isere via Toviere, Tufs and Tommeuses, a huge proportion of the 10,000 hectare ski domain is skiable already.
The first day of the 2016/17 season saw a successful Ski Force Winter Tour ski and board test at the foot of the Solaise, where mountain lovers got to try out not only new ski equipment, but also the cosy new 10 man Solaise gondola- complete with on board Wifi and heated seats- what a treat! Conditions are looking promising for the upcoming World Cup events both next weekend with the Beaver Creek replacement World Cup Mens race events on the OK race course, and the 61st Criterium de la Premier Neige kicking off from the following week (9th-18th December).
Check out our Tignes Live and Val D’Isere Live Info pages for up to the minute information on lift and piste openings/closures, and weather and snow conditions this winter. Info on lift pass prices here.
There are various bar openings happening across the two resorts this weekend, including Tignes Le Lac’s Underground on rue de la Poste tonight, Val Claret’s Saloon Bar tomorrow, and Val D’Isere’s Blue Note offering free nibbles in honour the official Winter opening tonight. With all this gorgeous snow and sunshine around, what’s not to celebrate?!
