Perfect Fit: How To Get Your Ski Boots Right

If your ski boots are the best fit, the likelihood is your holiday will be the best too. There’s nothing that’s guaranteed to put a dampener on things as much as missing an afternoon session because you’re nursing bruised shins with an ice pack.

There’s a right way and a wrong way to try on and fasten your ski boots.  Here’s a foolproof method developed exclusively by the expert fitters at Snowberry ski hire shop in Val d’Isere.

1. Start at the top – do the power strap if there is one up loosely followed by the top clip and the next one down, again loosely.

2. Stand up and flex right forward into the boots a few times to pull your heel back into the right place.

3. Then fasten the two clips over the foot, they should be loose enough to open and close very easily – too tight and you will clamp down the top of your foot causing all sorts of problems.

4. Lastly, tighten the top two clips and do up the power strap properly. They should all be reasonably tight, especially the ankle clip which is the one that holds your foot back into the boot.

If you want to try the latest kit, test some specialist skis on a day of touring or get your gear fitted by experts, Snowberry in Val d’Isere is the ski hire shop for you. They’ve been voted Best Ski Shop In Europe, mainly for their knowledgable service and quality boot fitting. If you’re not happy with the first pair, change them as many times as you need to. Their store at Rond Point des Pistes is also the base for Evolution 2 Val d’Isere so you can book your ski lessons, tours, trips and other outdoor activities at the same time. +33(0)4 79 41 10 61
