Tignes Val d’Isere Snow Report & Weather Forecast – 22.03.16

Meteo Mike Snow Reports Tignes Val d'IsereBy Meteo Mike

A bit of a frustrating day for an off piste adventure with Evolution 2. There was hill fog in the village early doors, but it cleared. So we thought we were in for a good day but there was a ‘sea of clouds’ down the valley which quickly worked its way up. We got down Familial before they arrived, but as we tried to do Mini Spatule the hill fog became very very thick which made it all a bit tricky, especially as some of the fog froze to the slope making it a bit slick. The instructor even opted for ‘Valée Perdu’ down into La Daille as there was some definition, but the snow was slick. After a trip down ‘Sous La Toviere’ we had lunch and set off for Tignes Les Boisses and the sun came out for a bit, so at least we could see the snow down a variant of Glattiers – it was still very varied. A final run down the chimney completed the day. We can all say we had a mixed bag of snow (as an understatement). The pistes are still in excellent condition though.

Tomorrow should be sunny, a bit warmer and the wind should drop by mid-morning. Friday looks grey and cloudy with a chance of light snow in the afternoon as the wind picks up – maybe a day for an early stack. Currently Saturday looks sunny, warm but windy at altitude. The guessing game continues for Sunday – it will be cloudy with a stiff breeze on high, there will be precipitation of all types; rain, sleet and snow depending on altitude and when exactly it arrives (the forecasts are disagreeing). Monday should bring sunny periods and a nice day, the rest of next week looks unsettled, winter is not yet over above 1700m!
