Well the forecasts were many and varied but none went quite as low as the 5cm we were sent. The snow stopped over the Italian Border, we were left with some redistributed by the wind. It was a brutal wind today, even down in Tignes Les Brevieres and many of the high lifts were closed. I was on an off piste day with Evolution 2 and even the instructor remarked that it is not often you see white capped waves on the Lac Du Chevril . We spent the morning in The Sache Valley, where the snow was windpacked on high, nice in the middle and hard packed and lumpy to the bottom. But we did see the first Chamois of the season on the far wall of Sachette, grabbing what little grass they could from inside a big crack where the snow had slipped down the hill a bit. Whilst on the nature theme we also spotted an eagle above the Chaudanne. The afternoon was a little more gentle with a trip down Glattiers and La Cheminée du Gurran.
And now the weather… The dice have had a shake-up since yesterday and we have contrasting forecasts for Sunday but here goes…. Early tomorrow the skies should clear leaving a sunny morning, but a few clouds on the peaks. The wind should almost vanish by lift opening, but expect a bit of blasting from the pisteurs in the morning, especially on high, so you may have to be patient for the high lifts. A few more clouds will develop in the afternoon. The temperature will be a good 4 degrees higher and with the lack of wind after 10am it should be a whole lot more pleasant. Friday and Saturday will be similar, sunny and warm. There is change afoot for Sunday which will be warm with sunny periods ahead of those April showers next week.
