It was a beautiful but cold morning as we had decided to head for Le Fornet, and an extra layer was a wise move. The snow over there was fantastic on piste; off piste it was very varied and that really goes for the whole of Tignes – Val d’Isere (unless you are prepared to hike for a while). We headed back via the Solaise, which was a game of two halves split at the top of the Solaise Express. Above, it was fabulous; below was very hard packed and the less said about Rhone Alpes the better! After a quick lunch in La Daille we cruised round the ever reliable Palet Sector in Tignes.
Tomorrow will start sunny but clouds will soon start appearing and by the close of play the sky should be obscured with a few flocons. Also watch out for the wind picking up in the afternoon – it will feel cold by then. Wednesday will be snowy and cold and there will be a strong wind, so expect the lower parts of both resorts to be busy. It is an easterly so forecasting the amount of snow is tricky – there should be enough to cover the piles of dark snow by the sides of the road, but talk of a massive powder day would be a little premature! Thursday will be bright and sunny but it will still be windy, a nice day on the terrace but woolly hats still required on the hill. Friday looks much more like Spring – sunny, calm and warmer. And so does Saturday.
