Snowboarder Dies In Off Piste Accident In Val d’Isere

A 35 year old snowboarder died after apparently losing control while off piste in the Manchet Valley, early this afternoon.

The man, who was on holiday in Tignes from the south of France, picked up speed towards the bottom of the Manchet Valley and fell around 10 metres into the river Calabourdane.

The accident was witnessed by staff and customers of a nearby mountain restaurant. They alerted pisteurs quickly and 8 patrol members, followed by a doctor and helicopter, were on scene almost immediately. The man was in cardiac arrest and all attempts to resuscitate him failed. Val d’Isere firefighters carried the body to the Chapel of Val d’Isere.
