Tignes Val d’Isere Snow Report & Weather Forecast – 19.01.16

Meteo Mike Snow Reports Tignes Val d'IsereBy Meteo Mike

I have just had a full day off piste with Evo2 today – 7 hours with a 30 min break for lunch! So little in the way of comment on the piste conditions but friends report they were superb.  The very light snow continued through the day.

We launched down the front of Tignes’ Palafour as a warm up and then it was to the Brevieres sector where we had 3 fantastic runs down Glattier, The Chimney and the third run allowed me to become acquainted with a few ‘Melezes’ or larch trees. Great snow within the trees  and some very flattering sking in areas where there was barely a soul. Just before lunch we did an avalanche search practice above Petit Col.

The afternoon was spent in Vallon de la Sache; unfortunately the light deteriorated so it was difficult to see the great snow. Finally, we took on the trees near Brevieres and its fair to say they probably won!  At this point I would reiterate that we were with a n Evo2 professional – so don’t take the above as carte blanche to go tomorrow – there are still a lot of hazards out there with avalanche risk 3.

As for the weather tomorrow it looks like a repeat of today with maybe a bit less wind on high. But the good news is for Thursday and Friday – high pressure means blue skies and sunshine with little wind and a freezing level at 1700m – so definitely a top coat less than today! Its a bit more complicated for Saturday as there is a band of snow not far from us – at the moment it is missing us so we should just have sunny spells – that may change though.
