Tignes Val d’Isere Snow Report & Weather Forecast – 17.01.16

Meteo Mike Snow Reports Tignes Val d'IsereBy Meteo Mike

It was absolutely freezing today. The light has been variable and we have had the odd snow shower – including couple at Geneva and Chambery which caused some delays. The pistes are in absolutely fabulous condition – just perfect grippy snow. It has been windy, which has redistributed the snow off piste and created a lot of Sastrugi making it more difficult.  The avalanche risk is 3 for tomorrow but still all the reasons in the world to be cautious.

The weather situation is very unpredictable at the moment – the surface pressure charts are more chaotic than a witches cauldron and changing every time the computer models are run. So forecasting beyond Wednesday  is virtually impossible. We will have a mostly clear and very cold night, but the wind will drop past midnight and the temperatures will rise a bit. We may see the sun in the morning but it will gradually cloud over from lift opening times. It will feel a good deal warmer than today with light winds and the freezing level at around 1000m. We may also see snow showers through the evening these will dissipate by Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be cloudy with temperatures and winds similar to Monday. The snow forecast yesterday now seems to be heading south of us. There may be the odd shower overnight into Wednesday which will also be cloudy. Later in the week looks mixed – we will have to wait and see.
