Tignes Val d’Isere Snow Report & Weather Forecast – 18.12.15

Meteo Mike Snow Reports Tignes Val d'IsereBy Meteo Mike

It felt just a bit cooler across the two resorts than yesterday as the thin cloud just took the warmth out of the sun. I skied over to Val d’Isere to watch the Ladies Downhill for a bit – OK Orange is going to be icy when it reopens!  Otherwise the pistes around Bellvarde, Toviere and Palet are pretty much as they were yesterday – the odd scraped patch to watch out for but nonetheless more than good enough for a piste holiday.

And from the weather studio: Bring your shades tomorrow – it will be wall to wall sunshine and very warm for the time of year – lunch on the terasse weather! Sunday will be very similar but there may be quite a breeze above 300om or so. Monday to Thursday looks like groundhog day with sunny periods, however they will be just a bit cooler as the freezing level drops from 3500m on Sunday to 2500m on Monday. I can’t see much of a change in the weather pattern until after Santa has parked his sleigh for another year… The avalanche risk remains at Level 1.

And now for the travel, the local authorities are forecasting 29000 vehicles coming up the hill between Albertville and Moutiers this weekend. There will be some early morning fog but hopefully it will have cleared before the hordes arrive. However this amount of traffic will cause some delays and the traffic lights at Aigueblanche will be in use to control the flow in the afternoon. For those on a flight to paradise (or leaving) it will be wet or damp across the whole of the UK and it might be a bit bumpy for take off and landing. Over here, Lyon and Grenoble are forecasting mist which should not cause an issue. Geneva is forecasting fog clearing by mid morning – this may lead to some delays as everything moves more slowly on the ground. Chambery is also forecasting fog, clearing between 9am and 11am – if this happens (and it seems quite a certain forecast) this will delay the arrival of the earlier flights so you could reasonably expect to have to wait on the ground in the UK, or the pilot will risk a diversion.
