Val d’Isere Club Doudoune Creates Fantasyland

A walk round Val d’Isere can feel like stepping into Narnia. The pretty chalets, snow-covered trees and festive lights give it a magical air. You wouldn’t usually expect to get the same cosy vibe from walking into a nightclub, where sparse decor and dimly lit dancefloors are more the norm,  let alone one of the Alps’ only superclubs. But Doudoune in Val d’Isere has been completely transformed this year into a brand new ‘concept club’ – and the result is like stepping straight back into Narnia.

The team behind the club – and its sister apres-ski bar Cocorico upstairs – have brought in expert stage designers behind Tomorrowland sets to completely revamp the space using props, lighting and stage set pieces. As you step inside it feels like you’re being drawn into a mystic forest with tree trunk columns, woodland-style graffiti art and ceiling lights reminiscent of looking straight up at the stars through a canopy of trees.

As you walk round the club you discover cosy areas with different themes to hang out in. A gypsy-style camp is re-created with wooden wagon wheels and furniture. The live music stage is decked out like a fantasy circus – it’s as if the band are the ringmasters and you’re the dancing acts! Lights above you give the impression you’re in a Big Top. It’s all a world away from your ski day – you could be anywhere as you lose yourself inside the Doudoune theatre. It’s even been compared to some of the eccentric Ibiza megaclubs.

We wanted to create something that got the people to think ‘WOW’

Doudoune manager Victor says: “The club has completely changed from last year. The space is bigger but you still get a warmer and cozier feeling. The new decor and lights are fun and it’s changed the whole atmosphere inside the club. With the mystic forest, circus/vagabundos style you feel like you are far away from Val d’Isere. We wanted to create something that got the people to think ‘WOW’, and by the looks of it this is what we have done. The club looks absolutely amazing and we are happy that we have found a fun and cool theme that we can keep on pushing further the coming seasons. We are already planning next year!”

DJ Danny Howard

The new decor was road tested at a pre-season Club 21 events last week and the verdict was definitely ‘WOW’. We’re promised performance art, live music, amazing video projections and that the brand new sound and lighting systems will help create another world behind the wardrobe doors of the club. This season, the club opens earlier at 10.30pm with live music and a cosy bar-style atmosphere gradually ramping up to the full club effect after midnight. Each week look out for guest DJs and something different. On Tuesday, the season starts with Radio 1 DJ Danny Howard, and live music from popular Alps circuit band Bring Your Sisters.

We can’t wait to see what else Doudoune has in store this winter – but we’re certain it will be something special!
