Tignes Goes Big For Winter 2016

Tignes has released its plans for Winter 2016 – and there are a few surprises in there! This New Year the resort’s reverting back to its old favourite of a DJ and music concert – after last year giving a Cirque du Soleil-style family show a go. Again it’s opening early, at the end of November, with skiing on offer from 3 October on the glacier. The Live In Tignes concerts are back – but this time brought together into a festival weekender with Francofolies de la Rochelle: 3 days of concerts, 15 artists and 2 stages – a ski-in festival in April! After European Snow Pride’s success last year, Tignes will hold the first Gay Pride in a ski resort! The amazing Red Bull Linecatcher free ski event comes to Tignes in January, after being held in Les Arcs last year. The SFR Freestyle Tour Stage in Tignes is now on the World Cup calendar, plus the Disabled Ski World Cup and more.

Itching to get your skis on? In Tignes the skiing is non-stop from 3rd October 2015 until 8th May 2016!
On the 3rd October 2015, the Grande Motte glacier unrolls its slopes between 3000 and 3500 metres. You get there with the funicular in seven minutes go from the centre of Tignes at 2100 metres.

20 kilometres of green to black slopes with 12 lifts, offering a 750 vertical meters drop, can be accessed on the glacier.

More and more slopes then open up, depending on the snowfall, enabling you to return to the resort on your skis as early as possible in the season.

The glacier is the place to be for the high level sport. In October and November the National ski team training on the glacier. You’ll come across a large number of athletes from various national teams who take advantage of the glacier at Tignes to get back in touch with the snow and get their skis on again!


Tignes-Val d’Isere opens on 28th November 2015.
Here you’ll find a skiable area of 300km and 155 ski runs. The skiable area starts at an altitude of 1,500m rising to 3,450m, with runs of varying difficulty.

The largest corporate sporting challenge in the world is heading up to Tignes for the first time this winter.

31th December 2015: A POP ROCK NEW YEAR’S EVE WITH RTL2 radio station
Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Tignes on the highest outdoor dancefloor in Europe! A DJ, some Pop-Rock music and a giant firework at the heart of the mountains at 2 100m altitude, that’s the plan to celebrate 2016 in Tignes.

17 January 2016 : RED BULL LINECATCHER
An untracked slope scattered with couloirs and cliffs, natural kickers and the best freeskiers in the world.

25th to 30th January 2016: DISABLED WORLD SKI CUP
90 athletes from 12 nations will be in Tignes for the IPC World Cup 2016. Giant, Downhill and Super-Combined will be held on the Lognan Stadium in Tignes Val Claret.

The SFR Freestyle Tour, currently the largest freestyle ski competition in Europe, is offering four major events in the international calendar in the two new Olympic disciplines: halfpipe and slopestyle.
But since last year, they’re going even bigger: the SFR Freestyle Tour Stage in Tignes is on the World Cup calendar!
Since its inception, the circuit has stayed true to the spirit in which it began: an ”open” competition in which pros and amateurs can sign up to the 3 categories: Men, Women and Juniors.

12th to 19th March 2016: EUROPEAN SNOW PRIDE
From 12th to 19th March 2016 Tignes will be waving the rainbow flag, the emblem of the gay community, and hosting European Snow Pride 2015. A week of skiing and events dedicated to gay people from the 4 corners of Europe. Having already hosted this event in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014 Tignes has proved its status as gay-friendly by being involved in the organisation of this exceptional week dedicated to gay mountain, ski and party lovers.
Events include: DJ nights, pool party, après-ski on the terrace, cosy evenings, group skiing and snowboarding, lunch in the sun, and other surprises…
NEW: THE FIRST GAY PRIDE IN A SKI RESORT – held on the 17th of March

11th to 14th April 2016 – LIVE IN TIGNES BY LES FRANCOFOLIES
After 4 successful years, the Live in Tignes gets bigger and comes back from the 11th to the 14th of April 2016 as a Festival. This year, Tignes asked the team of the Francofolies de la Rochelle to work on the organization and the program of the Festival. A unique opportunity to launch the 2016 season of summer festival on the slopes of Tignes: 3 days of concerts, 15 artists and 2 stages. Come and enjoy this event with your skis on!

1st to 8th May 2016: Keep your skis on!
In Tignes we ski before and after everyone else, the good timing to enjoy spring snow and sun until the end, in Tignes Val Claret and Tignes le Lac.



Be the first! In winter, every Wednesday from Christmas to Easter, join the mountain professionals for a Fresh Tracks session. Be one of the first on the slopes, and experience a unique moment with the Tignes professionals. The STGM lift staff will open the funicular at 8:30 am. On arrival on the La Grande Motte glacier, the ski patrollers will brief you over a coffee and croissant, you can then put your skis on and ski down the Double M for 900 vertical meters on groomed snow. €15 per session with a valid ski pass.


For the second winter, the Bun J Ride is heading into winter mode and setting up on the pistes in Tignes!
The Bun J Ride combines ski jumping, bungee jumping and zip wire. The jumper is equipped with a harness attached on each side at the waist to two mobile elasticated cords. Standing on top of the ski jump on the flying accessory of his/her choice, the jumper travels down a runway approximately 30m long that drops down into a 40-metre void. The jumper is supported by the two elasticated cords that follow his/her trajectory. The system locks and once the jumper has become stable, he/she travels back down the zip wire to the ground.
The ski jump is located down the side of the “Lac” blue run. The site in Tignes is exclusively dedicated to jumps on skis, snowboard or sledges. Fans of snowsports and thrilling experiences will be able to try this new world-famous activity every year from December to April.
